Week 40
Mum:
Your body has been getting ready in many ways over the last months and especially weeks. By now you have a clear idea of what labour entails and of what pain relief is available. Keep in mind that as much as you might plan, at the end of the day things might turn out to be totally different, since circumstances and priorities might change during labour. However rest your mind assured that you will be in great hands and although this might all be new for you, it is a field of expertise for the carers.
Baby:
Your baby is now ready for the world. Most babies are born to be about 20 – 21 inches long and about 3.5 kilograms. Nutrition, maternal health and genetics all play an important part in determining your baby’s weight.
Your baby will soon leave a world where every need is instantly fulfilled. Suddenly s/he feels the scratchy blankets, the cold air, loud noises and hunger. The comfort your baby seeks are the same ones experienced in the uterus; warmth and security and therefore the place closest to that would be wrapped snugly against your belly or your partner’s.
Dad:
You might be finding yourself daydreaming and imagining how you baby will look like. It is very normal that the dad would not feel a strong bond as much as the mom-to-be, but you will definitely make up for it once you hold your baby in your arms.
