Week 12
Mum:
As you approach your second trimester, nausea may finally begin to subside. You may also notice the linea nigra, a dark line of pigmentation creeping up your abdomen. This will completely disappear after delivery. Your abdomen may start expanding, especially if this is not your first pregnancy. Your placenta will take over the production of hormones around this time and your risk of miscarriage is reduced even further.
Baby:
Your baby has the ability to swallow and absorb and discharge fluids. Hands, now complete, are growing fingernails. Even tooth buds are appearing. Your baby’s face now has a distinctly human appearance. S/he also has its reflexes and is also practicing movements in the digestive tract. By means of a Doppler you may be able to hear your baby’s heart beat. It will sound very fast.
Dad:
Speaking out your feelings, both of joy and fear or insecurity brings you and your partner closer together and in turn makes both of you more prepared to parenthood.
